Sean C. McCabe

I started painting at forty two and haven't looked back. Painting, for me, is a practice that requires one to step away as much as work. I go into dormancy. I contemplate quitting. Then just paint.

I frequently paint landscapes and still lifes, imbuing them with a sense of primitive structure and a sense of time. Through color and form, I work to capture the essence of my subjects rather than their detailed likeness. Light plays a crucial role in creating contrast and depth. Inspired by Abstract Expressionism, I utilize thick impasto, bold colors, and sgraffito techniques with use of both palette knives and brushes, to create tactile surfaces.
